The Closest Distance

Despite DeviantArt's title space limits, the official title for this drawing is "The Closest Distance Between Two Points..."

As you geometry buffs know, the closest distance between two points is a line. Or, in this case, a telephone line. I wanted to use whatever meager fanarting skills I have to pay homage to Mulder's habit of calling Scully at all hours of the night to talk about work, life, and loneliness.

I still can't pin down the characters (minor detail, minor detail!) but I had a lot of fun doing the background. I imagined a contrast between Scully's order and Mulder's chaos, but tried to put in a lot of empty space as well (Mulder's floor, Scully's bed). When I look at the completed picture I don't see a whole lot of empty space, though, which is the point: Despite being alone, the call is what connects them to each other and completes them.
The only other real commanality is that they both seem to have pictures of each other in their apartments, hmmm.

Summation: Meh fanart has deep meaning for artist. Cheers!
